HDBank Green Marathon 2026: A Sustainable Race in Can Gio and a New Signal for Community Sports

HDBank Green Marathon 2026 will officially take place in September 2026 in Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City, marking the fifth consecutive year of the race on Vietnam’s community sports map. Rather than being just a race, the event is being positioned as a model combining eco-tourism, environmental initiatives, and digital platforms, targeting broad participation instead of elite performance. The organizing board confirmed race distances of 5 km, 10 km, half marathon 21 km and marathon 42 km, together with family, children and team categories. The route is measured and certified by AIMS – the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. This certification guarantees distance accuracy and global safety standards. The event is directed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, coordinated with the HCMC Athletics Federation, Unique Company, and HDBank. Can Gio is home to a UNESCO-recognized Biosphere Reserve with mangrove ecosystems, creating a scenic yet variable route with sand, roots, humidity and changing terrain. Digital integration through the HDBank app and “Green Marathon online” extends the race beyond race day, enabling remote participation and eKYC verification. Past editions planted more than 2,000 trees. Although the event has low elite competitive stakes, its true value lies in community health, digital engagement, environmental messaging and sports tourism.
